The Center for Human Rights and Development (CHRD) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit public benefit organization established in 1998 to promote and protect human rights and social justice in Mongolia. We believe that the fulfillment of human rights is essential to poverty reduction, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Meaningful public participation in the formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of national and local development policies and programs is key to ensuring that the benefits of development are shared equally by all.
We are an independent, non-governmental, non-partisan, and non-profit organization. We are a group of human rights lawyers and activists who work to protect and advocate for vulnerable and marginalized groups, including low-income communities, herders affected by mining, small-scale artisanal miners, and victims of human trafficking.
We implement three programs: human rights advocacy, human rights protection, and community development. Since 1998, we have implemented more than 70 projects, including the establishment of Mongolia’s first Public Interest Law Clinic to train young lawyers in public interest litigation and provide free legal aid to low-income individuals.
We conduct research and monitoring, engage in legal advocacy and public interest litigation, develop policy recommendations, disseminate human rights information and educational materials, organize public trainings and campaigns, and support communities through capacity-building initiatives.
We welcome visitors during our working hours.
